Excel I & II

Delta can help you excel—with real-world Excel training for retail.

Data-analysis skills are more critical to an organization’s competitiveness than ever before, and no other software program provides as many potent tools as Microsoft® Excel. But how many of those tools have you mastered? How many people on your team can fully utilize Excel’s complete range of functionality? Do you have a few “power users,” while everybody else fumbles along? Delta Associates has a solution that is much more effective than self-teaching or generic classes. We offer Excel I and II training workshops that can help all your team members—from novices to power users—get more out of Excel on a daily basis.

Anything but a generic workshop.

Our workshops teach only those components of Excel that are used most frequently by FMCG/CPG professionals, and we do it through a methodology of application-driven learning, not keystroke training. That is, we do not follow Microsoft’s prescribed training regimen. Our approach is more practical because it was developed specifically for individuals who work in the retail industry, and it teaches skills in the same way they will be used on the job.

These workshops use real-world business scenarios to illustrate how Excel is used to answer critical Business Management Questions™ and solve real-world problems. Along the way, you will discover tools that help you expedite the discovery of business insights, and you will learn how to properly chart these insights for clear and powerful visual communication. As a result, your team members will soon be working more quickly and efficiently, resulting in greater productivity than you could have imagined.

Key learning components.

In Delta’s Excel I, you will learn how to:

  • Quickly and efficiently navigate worksheet functions
  • Master shortcut keystrokes and time-saving macros
  • Sort, filter, and analyze large data sets
  • Enhance the value of data through mathematical operations
  • Create engaging, informative charts and graphs
  • Hone your skills using your company’s own data sets
Excel I: Excel Basics

Learn how to navigate a spreadsheet efficiently and use basic functions to manage data quickly and easily. This is when we typically hear, “I didn’t know you could do that” or “That just made the whole workshop worth it!” During this module you will:

  • Learn basic Excel functionality
  • Master Sorting and AutoFilter to work with large data sets
  • Learn Formulas and Functions for faster, deeper analysis
  • Use Conditional Formatting to create easy-to-read reports
  • Create Macros to save time working with data
Excel I: Charting

The default charts in Excel rarely communicate your business message as clearly or powerfully as possible. Visuals tell your story, and possessing the ability to create the right chart is critical. Learn the nuances of modifying charts to achieve the desired look. During this module you will:

  • Learn how to turn weak charts into powerful business messaging
  • Create a reverse bar chart and bubble chart
  • Automatically update charts in PowerPoint
  • Use Custom Gallery to save time creating and formatting frequently used charts
Excel II: PivotTable

Perhaps the most powerful tool within Excel, PivotTable empowers you to analyze huge data sets with ease. For example, in minutes you can take thousands of records and create a summary that will compare sales by region, measure profitability versus price over time, identify your top 10 products for a specific account, or calculate sell-through by quarter from weekly data. During this module you will:

  • Master Design Layout to create professional-looking reports
  • Identify Top & Bottom performers through multitier Sorting
  • Use Grouping to display data any way you choose
  • Create Calculated Fields for average price, gross margin, or in-stock at a grouping level
  • Make visually appealing, easy-to-read reports with AutoFormatting
  • Develop interactive charts for analysis through PivotCharting
Excel II: Excel Lab

Here you will reinforce previously learned skills through practice. Attendees bring current projects or reports and use their new skills to make their work processes more efficient. Instructors consult with attendees, ensuring each individual walks away with techniques and tips to improve accuracy and save time. During this module you will:

  • Reinforce all previously learned skills
  • Practice using your own projects, reports, or data sets
  • Improve Excel accuracy and efficiency
  • Receive one-on-one training with instructors

Who should attend?

The simple answer is: anyone in your organization who analyzes or uses data. These modules are only available in a private on-site setting for a group of eight to 24 people. Each module is a half-day in length, and you are free to pick and choose the modules that will best suit your needs.
